The Kobe collection(神戸コレクション） is a fashion show currently held in Kobe every year. It was hosted for the first time on August 31, 2002, and is often called KOUKORE (神コレ）for short.
The fashion shows held in Paris, Milan or New York are aimed at launching new work by fashion designers. They are targeted only at industry participants, buyers and journalists.
In contrast, the Kobe collections displayed are not just launches of new work by designers, but also come from multi-brand shops（セレクトショップ） and upcoming young designers.
Moreover, it is an event that also plays a role in distributors’ promotion of retail and advertisement of the beauty industry.
Women in their 20s and 30s gather for the Kobe collection. In addition to being broadcast, it is also promoted on a blog, a mobile site and around the Internet.
The Kobe Collection offers a place for young designers to launch clothing, or for periodic collaborative fashion shows by multiple manufacturers, mass media and distributors in which consumers also participate. However, this is just the beginning.
The apparel of Kobe is notable; its fashion style, as worn by young people living in the Hanshin area(阪神エリア）, often appears in magazines and is recognized as a particular type of fashion.
Part of what started Kobe’s reputation as a fashion city was the collection’s interlocking with Kobe Fashion Week in the autumn and winter of 2006.
A Shanghai public display(上海公演） was also held as the first overseas event in 2007.

I met Laurene Oudart, who writes Apalog’s "Hot News from a Parisienne," for the first time.
She loves Japan, and has already visited six times, one of which was a five-week stay.
"Five weeks?" I asked.
"The French get away a lot because they are lazier," she returned in fluent Japanese.
She said, "Japan has a lot of otaku from France, which is becoming a problem these days."
Laurene explained, "Guys who aren’t popular with women in France come to Japan looking for a girlfriend."
Unfortunately, they have images of Japan from comics and anime in their heads. This is why, if she hears people speaking French in Japan, she ignores them.
She also said that Japan differs from France very much; an example of this is seen in Gothic & Lolita fashion.
In Japan, Gothic & Lolita fashion can be seen in urban areas, but it would be very dangerous if people who are into this special fashion wore the clothes in city areas of France.
The Japan Expo in Paris, where those who are into Gothloli or cosplay can enjoy their passions in comfort, is therefore a precious place.
Now I understand why participants dress up so joyfully.

Have you heard of the band Tokio Hotel? They are a teen rock group with charismatic popularity in Germany. When they were naming the band, they looked for a city name that sounded exciting and would remain in people's hearts. That name was Tokyo.
They made their major debut with the single Durch Den Monsun (Through the Monsoon) in 2005, which reached number one on the charts in Germany and Austria.
Their debut album, Schrei, sold over 600,000 copies in Germany, a country where selling 200,000 copies is considered a great success.
They debuted in the U.S. with the album Scream in May 2008.
They’ve never been to Japan, but their song Monsoon is in Japanese.
I wonder what kind of Japan they see through the monsoon.
