Dear Friends,
A group of around 50 cosplayers attracted the attention of locals and tourists when they showed off their creations in Spanish Square (スペイン広場)in Rome.

Cosplay, short for "costume roleplay", is a fan labor type of performance art to represent a specific character. Characters are often drawn from manga, anime and video games.

The cosplayers, who were taking part in a pop culture event called Romics(ロミックス), arrived in the square after marching through western Rome from Popolo Square via the busy Corso Avenue.
It was the first cosplay rally to be held in the square since the Romics event began in 2001, according to the organizer. The Japanese Embassy in Italy backed this year’s event and Misako Aoki (青木美紗子), a government-designated pop culture ‘‘ambassador,(カワイイ大使)’’ also participated. The organizer of the event will hold a cosplay contest to select competitors to represent Italy in the next round of the annual World Cosplay Championship to be held in Nagoya in 2010.
